Mar 11, 2012. #1. I am the owner of DC Performance here in Maryland. I have been asked by a customer to do a 5.0L swap on his 93 2wd regular cab splash. The original engine was a stock 4.0L 5 speed trans with well over 100K on it. I will be doing as much documentation and pics as possible, so this build will help others with their swaps.

First I would say take a look under the hood of a 96-01 explorer 5.0, that'll give you an idea of room.The 2.3l was offered at 205 HP in the Mustang SVO. The only difference internally was the Forged pistons designed to handle the higher pressures, heat, and RPMs. Many people have added turbos to the ranger 2.3l, with very few upgrades (mostly pistons) the RBV 2.3l will handle 400+ HP, they are an amazing engine.
Re: 2000 Ranger 4x4 v8 swap preparation. I'm putting together a V8 swap for my 2000 right now. It's a 5 speed 4.0 4x4. I'm going to use the Ex 4R70W though. I don't mind the auto. Then I have a BW 4406 manual T-case from an F150. You can use a 5 speed from a 4.2 v6 F150. If you use the 5 speed you will need a tune.
