There is fun to be had in the game, especially when you are new and if you have friends. Meeting people in game can lead to lots of great times. But once you know what you're doing, it just gets so boring. Every town is the same buildings with the same interiors with the same shit. Loot is an issue.
I play as a passive survivor. I start with a stone knife and an stick with a burlap pack and go from there. Next goal is a water proof jacket off some kind and some decent boots. I loot to survive and once I get geared up I hunt zombies and wolves.

Personally, I carry one 2x2 of canned food (usually canned bacon), one soda, and a stack of chlorine all inside a cooking pot. This allows for one back up food if you get low and still can’t find an animal to hunt. One back up liquid for if you can’t get to water quick enough to purify a pot with chlorine.Smoke the veg in a house oven while you dry off- easier than messing with a campfire, and can smoke and cook at same time. I've searched for hours and hours over dozens of forum posts on arma2, reddit, dayz forums, xsplit forums and various other sites that have tweaks and optimizations for arma2 and dayz. After trying tons of different combinations of settings I've found what works best for my setup.
When it rains your clothes will get damp > wet > soaked. Avoid being soaked for long. Make a fire and sit near it to get warm and your clothes will dry off after just a few minutes.
