A rough estimate I've heard for overhead is 40%. I looked at a job where the doctor collected 800k last year, walked home with 360k.As far as Anesthesiology vs. EM, I would say EM has better "lifestyle" b/c they work less hours (probably an average of 35 vs. an average of 50 or so) and they are never on call (barring mass casualty or you have to cover for a sick co-worker).
