I have an Onan P220G in a John Deere 318, with no spark. It has been starting hard, misses for a while when blade engaged (initial under load). Compression in each cylinder is 120lbs. Just bought new plugs. There is 12V on + side of coil. (-) side of coil oscillates between 0V and 12V as it should.

Did a test I read about where you test the voltage on the negative side of the coil. 12 volts are present but when I try to start it there is barely any ... It is popping and is backfiring through the carb. I bought some starter spray, and same condition - cranks and backfiring through carb seems to be more. Went to check spark plugs. Turned gas switch off at the left hand side tank selector.
