Even privates, I looked into CMU, and some other T20's and they all seem to deflate grades. I haven't heard much about UC Davis, which is good because that is also a very good all around school, and good for ... I have heard of one professor making an A- a 91.5 instead of a 90, but that’s pretty much about it. Grade deflation does seem worse at Berkeley but I’m not sure. STEM is hard at both schools. However, because most UCLA students do believe that Berkeley has a lot of grade deflation (whether or not Berkeley actually does), they chose UCLA. UCBerkeley is notoriously difficult and competitive for premeds. Lots of grade deflation and everyone is a genius. Go where you will stand out, be happy, and not have to kill yourself to get good grades. Hey. Congrats on your multiple acceptances! I wouldn't say "there's" grade deflation per se, I do think that to get great grades requires a TON of work. I've seen numerous articles point to grade inflation in Berkeley in the past and forums where Berkeley students find the new grade deflation policies to be terrible. Is the GPA deflation there that bad and does it affect my chances of getting into grad school?

I've heard these terms used so many times to describe colleges. It seems like the top 3 (HYP) get accused for grade inflation while the remaining top 15 (Ex. Cornell, John Hopkins, etc.) and Berkeley are accused of grade deflation. Why would such policies even exist and if they did exist wouldn't graduate colleges take them into account if the difference was truly that spectacular?
