The Coast Guard has shut down a portion of the Ohio River between Mount Vernon, Ind., and Old Shawneetown, Ill. Coast Guard spokesman Kirk Beckmann said the river is closed today from mile maker 847.5 to mile maker 849 because of shallow water, debris and sand in the navigational channel. Beckmann says there's high water and a strong current in the Wabash River, which feeds the Ohio River.
