The hinge on my more expensive Lenovo Ideapad 5 however broke after less than 1.5 years. Lots of other Ideapad owners complained on the forums about the exact same problem, so it looks like a manufacturing fault. Apparently some HP laptops like the Envy series tend to have similar hinge issues.I have a Yoga series from black friday in '17 that the defective hinges, which are a known issue in all 700 series by Lenovo for some time, broke through the right lower side. I have had a couple of quotes for the repair - both are around £120.00. The laptop has a fair spec on it. Shame that just the the hinge is broken. A new one with a similar spec is around £550 to £600. I have looked at some second hand ones on Ebay so I may get one of those and maybe sell the Lenovo one for parts only. Unfortunately in this case, yes, the hinges break without warning and regular use. There are hundreds comments on reddit and Lenovo forums and there is even a website some owners of the Lenovo Flex created specifically to file a class action lawsuit for this problem. I'm looking at buying a Ideapad Flex 5 16" laptop (2022 model). A lot of reviews I've found about the Ideapad Flex 2-in-1 laptops from 2020-2021 mention that the screen hinges fail within a few months to 1 year, often resulting in the screen cracking. Also apparently it's not covered under warranty.It's only an issue with some 2020 lemons, exacerbated by reddit's nature as an echo chamber. My 2020 7i, marketed as hingebreak galore (by reddit) did not deliver on this promise. I'm thinking i've got a lemon unit as it didn't break as advertised. 2020. I have a 2021 Legion 7i now but I did have a 2020 Legion 7i and it did have a hinge failure. The new ones are fine. The 2021 L7 series has the improved hinge design that fixed the previous weak hinge problem. Unless you have the 2020 model, otherwise, your L7 shouldn't have the hinge issue.
