Part time 4wd vehicles don't need rear diff and transfer case fluid changes as often as the VTM-4 fluid. At least, not in my experience. The RL needs the VTM-4 fluid changed per the MM. Generally, the first change will be in the 10k-15k mile range. The 2nd probably in the 30k-35k range. Do not use anything else but VTM-4 fluid from Honda for this.

So unless Honda changed the G2 Ridgeline back to a shared sump for the trans and transfer assembly, I think the trans fluid is a different fluid than the transfer assembly.
