GC gear can only be equipped by members of that GC, so if you grab equips and switch back to another GC, the gear you grabbed will be grayed out and cannot be equipped/glamoured ...Base it entirely on which town you spend the most time in and what you'll be doing with that GC. For example, once you rank up enough and start trading in stuff, you may decide that proximity to the GC counter is important, so you'd want Flames (Uldah) or Adders (Gridania) since their GC counters are very close to where you zone in.

Best advice would be to just keep playing the game normally and worry about your Grand Company rank later, the benefits of higher GC rank only really come when you start to level crafters/gatherers and additional combat jobs. For your first run through the MSQ there's very little point to ranking up in your GC.

None of these are the same concept within the context of the game. GC Hunt Log is good for leveling your GC rank, but does not give Allied Seals.
