CS 340 gives you the time (and credit hours) to focus on 400-level courses you’re personally interested in. I feel most of the very best courses we offer at Illinois are at the 400- or 500-level. By taking CS 340, you are able to spend the other 6 credit hours in 400-level courses instead of 200/300-level courses. Detailed Topic Comparisons I would advise you to take something easier than 361. 225 and 233 are assignment-heavy classes, 225 with weekly labs and biweekly MPs (some of which are very challenging), and 233 with weekly labs (part 1 due on Wednesday and part 2 due on Friday), so I think taking them with 361 will be too much. Alternatively, you can take 233 later because ... The holidays are nearing an end, but this year instead of balling your holiday lights up into a unwrappable knot, give yourself a break for next year and put those lights away tang... If you have time, we do have a number of 400-level CS electives that only have CS 225 as a prerequisite that you might enjoy. For example, database systems (CS 411), web programming (CS 409), game development (CS 415), and so on. These might be more fun, more manageable from a workload perspective, and equally useful to you as CS 233 or CS 241. 6.

Oo I’m currently in the 233 honors section, I had 0 experience with any hardware before taking it so the time commitment was quite steep. You have to do 5 additional FPGA/Raspberry Pi labs and a final project which took us 20-30 hrs. There are also some more homework assignments which are less intensive.

CS225 is one of the most important classes you take at this point. It isn’t really necessary for CS233, so you could maybe go ahead and take 233, but then you should absolutely retake 225 directly after that. You may even be able to take both at the same time. I took CS233 concurrently with CS225 without issue. Think of 233 as 233 + 341. Take 340 if you like high level stuff generally, and don’t wanna bother with low level code too much. Half of the semester is still low level c code, and a pretty large time commitment, but it is a lower time commitment than the insane amount of coding that’s 341. Both 361 and 357 are not too bad. Also Japanese is easy.
