The best battanian infantry is non-battanian infantry. Run around hiring empire troops if you're at peace, and take them prisoner if you are at war. If you want to roleplay their faction a bit more, just get more archers. All you need is 5-10 infantry with shields and have them stand in front of your line. Vlandia: Swordsman line is great because your T1-3 infantry can turn into vanguard, Crossbows are good, but you need critical mass. Sturgia: The Veteran Spearman line is pretty good, avoid their archers, Brigand line is good for the same reasons as Vlandia, but woodsmen are awful.
