To me, if you can make the same power with a 6,000 rpm 406 and a 7,000 rpm 355, then the 355 is more likely to break bottom end parts due to rpm. Now, if you can afford all the best in bottom end parts, then this may not seem big.

Hi Guys, I have a 406 sbc in a 68 Firebird. The car runs 11.4 @ 118mph & I would think is somewhere in the 500-520hp area. Currenty it runs a 1.75" 4 into 1 header with 3" collectors into a twin 2.5" system through an X pipe then 2.5" Hooker Aerochamber mufflers dumped @ the diff.

Dyno tests of Ford 408 Windsor 2.15 pinch and after market Chrysler comfirm for a street 400cuin around 1.9--2.1--2.2 pinch is a good starting point . Just add your own heads, cam, intake, and exhaust to complete the engine. This is a World Products 427ci short block that is more than capable of over 500 lb-ft of torque and 500 hp with the right breathing apparatus. If your goal is great horsepower with a 415ci or larger small-block, a single plane intake is probably a good idea.
