It seems to have a fast recoil impulse to me at faster 1 1/8 oz. loadings. It is a inexpensive powder but many do not like the powder leakage when loading. The current Nitro 27 factory loads are loaded with an extremely dense spherical (flattened ball) powder that has been reported to be Hodgdon's "Titegroup" or a very similar non-canister version of such. It is so dense that the TGT12 green wad is used with 1 1/8oz loads!

There are powders that will do 7/8 and use a grain or two less than Clays, but Clays sure will work, and you have it. You can never go wrong with W209 and STS. One powder you might consider is Titewad but it is pretty dense which mean you might get dished crimps on an STS. The load will fit better in an AAHS.

Alliant doesn't recommend it for pistols either. Notes (from 2001) say 00 buck (53.6 gr.) starting at 2.6 gr. Titewad for 732 fps working up to 9 gr. and 1976 fps.
