It takes an allen wrench. Once the handle is off, the trim panels will come off and the mounting screws are revealed. On my '88 SR, the throttle-only button would pop out revealing a nut holding the throttle handle on. Remove the oil filler plug on the top of stator before you pull it away from the shaft so you don't suck the oil seal out of it. Oil will run out of the stator section when you pull it off so have a drip pan handy. Once you pull the stator, the wear ring just slips right off. I can get mine apart in about 15 minutes.150.
